Measuring Guide

We advise you to use a metal tape measure to ensure your measurements are as accurate as possible.

When measuring, constantly be on the look out for intruding tiles etc. It is vitally important any potential obstacle is accounted for to ensure for a perfect fit.

Measuring your windows to decide which size of wooden blind to order is easy. Just follow these simple steps.

Please use a metal tape measure to take measurements and use centimetres to the nearest 0.1cm.

Inside Recess Fit
  • Take 3 measurements for the width of the window recess as shown in the picture.
  • Take the smallest of these measurements.
  • Do the same for the drop, again taking the smallest measurement.
  • No need to make any adjustment to your sizes, we will reduce the width by 1.5cm (industry standard), to ensure your blinds fit snug inside the recess. Please ensure you select the "inside" option when placing your order.

Please ensure you select the "inside" option when placing your order.

Outside Recess Fit
  • Just measure the exact area you would like the blind to cover, as shown in the picture below and select the "outside" option when placing your order.

Choosing the right length pole for your window couldn't be easier. Curtain Pole Fit

Take all measurements to the nearest centimetre. Don’t worry if your measurements are in inches as you can use the conversion table at the bottom of this page to convert to centimetres.

If you have an existing curtain rail, which you are replacing then measuring the length of this will give you the correct length for your new pole.

When existing curtain rail measurement is unavailable then measure the inside recess width of the window (see the diagram above). Add at least 15cm ( 6” ) each side i.e. 30cm ( 12” ) in total. This additional 30cms (15cms each side) is to accommodate the curtains outside of the recess i.e. so they block out the minimum amount of daylight when drawn. Write the measurement total down and then you can start shopping right away.

When choosing a fixed length pole, if you are unsure as to which length pole to opt for, then always choose the longer length as it can always be cut down. For fixed length poles, the longer lengths will be sold in two pieces that adjoin with a central bracket (supplied).

When choosing a telescopic/extendable pole you should simply make sure that your required length lies within the range of the extendable pole set.

When choosing a made to measure pole, simply add 30cms (2 x 15cm) to your recess measurement to arrive at the required pole measurement.

Important! When you have measured the recess width, check that there is sufficient free space to take the fully assembled rail each side of the recess. You will need 30cms each side of the recess to accommodate rails, brackets and finials.

Should you not have sufficient free space on one or both sides of the recess (e.g. because the recess is too close to a corner of the room), or you know the exact length of the pole you require, then give us the details by calling us on 0845 603 3228 or contact us here. We can then further tailor the pole to fit your particular circumstances.
