Wooden Blind Measuring Guide

There are a number of fitting options to choose from, including the traditionally popular "in recess" fitting. We also offer options to fit the blind direct to the window sash and this is proving particularly popular with those with ‘tilt and turn’ windows.

You can select the most appropriate option for your requirements from the Fitting Options and Measurements section below. This helps you to determine W, the width and H, the height of a blind, together with the Fitting Code, so that the correct, applicable brackets and fittings are supplied.

Just enter the W, H and Fitting Code required in the order section and we will ensure your blinds exactly meet your requirements.

Fitting Options and Measurements

Option 1. Blinds fitted within the window recess.

Fitting in the recess

Box and Centre Bracket

This is the most popular fitting option in the UK.

W (Width): Measure the width of the recess in the top, middle and bottom. Take the smallest measurement and deduct 1.5 cm.
H (Height/Drop): Measure the recess from the top to the sill or bottom of the recess.

Option 2. Fitting to window sash using no screw brackets.

Top Bracket and Bottom Bracket

This option offers a solution for those whose windows open inwards. The brackets will be clipped on to the window sash and so the blind will move with the window enabling you to open your window any time. Note, with inward opening windows, the window will conflict with the blind if the blind is fitted to the wall or the recess. Attachment to the window sash therefore offers a solution to this problem.

If you require the brackets to secure the bottom rail, which is very helpful with tilt and turn windows, causing the blind to adhere to sash when in slanted position, please select option 2b.
W (Width): Measure the glass and add 3 cm.
H (Height/Drop): Measure the overall height of the window sash.

Option 3. Fitting to window sash using screw brackets.

Screw Bracket

This option is very similar to option 2 above. It is suitable for you if your window opens inwards though in this case you screw the brackets to the sash. The screws can be used with PVC and wooden sashes.

As above, if you require the brackets to secure the bottom rail, which is very helpful with tilt and turn windows, causing the blind to adhere to sash when in slanted position, please select option 3b.
W (Width): Measure the glass and add 3 cm.
H (Height/Drop): Measure the overall height of the window sash.

Option 4. Blinds fitted outside the recess.

Fitting in the recess

Box and Centre Bracket

This fitting method is suitable for those who wish to fit the blind to the wall above the recess.

If you don’t have a recess or maybe have insufficient space in your recess then this fitting option is a possible solution for you.
W (Width): Measure the width of the recess and add the required overlap. We recommend adding at least 5 cm for each side.
H (Height/Drop): Measure the distance from the top of the blind, which should be at least 6 cm above the top of the recess, to the bottom of the recess or below.
